The Law of Attraction. You've gotta love it. For those unfamiliar with the term, the underlying concept is one that is a cornerstone in every major religion. The premise is that the energy that we put out - through thought, word or deed - is always returned. If you cheat somebody, you can be certain at some point you will also be cheated. Similarly, if you display compassion to another being in pain, you will in turn be comforted during a difficult time. It's all about maintaining balance. With this in mind, the next logical step is to find a way to attract the things we need. In general terms, one method that has been very effective for me centers on simple gratitude. Some time ago, I participated in a 90 day experiment called Go Gratitude where the simple requirement was to take time each day for the duration and acknowledge three things that I was grateful for. To be honest, there were some days that I missed, for one reason or another but it demonstrated a concept that had added incredible joy to my life.

Here's the idea: By being grateful daily, we are attracting other things into our life to be thankful for. The more gratitude we are able to display, which stimulates some very high vibration emotions like joy, the more we draw that same type of energy to us. In more specific terms, if we employ the three basic tenets of working almost any type of magic - intent, visualization and release - we can attract the things that we need. Anybody who has blown out a birthday candle will understand this.

OK, OK, yes, there was a point to this post. Not only the obvious but also to graphically demonstrate that my guides  have one heck of a sense of humour. Some weeks ago, my trusty mountain bike broke down for good. For a number of reasons, it was difficult to find a suitable replacement. I held a small ceremony with my clear intent for another durable bike and infused the visualisation with some added joy by picturing me on the bike trail with the wind blowing my hair. (This is a key component that can add significant additional energy to the eventual manifestation of the need or desire.) Three days later, I had been in the lobby of the where I work and a tenant had come in with a high end mountain bike. Remarking that it was a sweet ride, he replied that he intended to sell it. After stating the price, I immediately said "SOLD!"...it was exactly what I had wanted to pay. Cutting to the chase, the day arrived to pick it up and I was informed that it was a bit "warm" but he hadn't stolen it "from anybody in this city." Needless to say, I did not buy it. Three days later, another tenant mentioned hearing I needed a bike and informed me that a friend of his was selling one, and once again, the price was exactly what I was willing to pay. Here's where it strats to get weird....

Sitting on the couch, the day I was to get this second bike, I'd had a strange flash in my mind of this tenant calling me and before I could examine the thought further, the phone rang. Yes, It was him!!! His message was that his buddy had decided not to sell.  In the space of 1 1/2 weeks, two bikes had been within my grasp and I remarked to a friend, "Everything for reason, I know, but damn." Four days later this same friend buzzed me from the lobby and said there was something I needed to see. On a kickstand behind a parked Jeep, a snazzy mountain bike rested. It turned out she had discovered a local site called Free Cycle, where people "gift" usable items for free and she had put in a request for a bike for me. One day after her request, a couple had listed a mountain bike they wanted to give away and is now resting comfortably in my apartment. All told, from initial request to actual manifestation of that request was just over two weeks. Using the Law of Attraction, I have seen needs met in as quick as a day. Those, however, were addressed in somewhat unusual ways and topic for another day.

The Devils' Bible?

Early in the 13th century, a Benedictine monk wrote the Codex Gigas, a manuscript containing the sum of the Benedictine order's knowledge of the time. More than 600 pages long and weighing in at 75 kg, it is considered the largest medieval book. It probably took the monk about a decade to write, but legend has it he promised to write it overnight in atonement for his sins. How could he possibly succeed? The legend says he asked the devil for help, and thus the work is known as the "Devil's Bible."

The Codex was taken from Prague after the Thirty Years' War by Swedish troops. Now it is back, on loan from Sweden's Royal Library and on display through January 6. Find out more about it in the article at the Canadian Press.

Usually these odd witchcraft stories out of Africa are rare, but today's news brings yet another jawdropper from the Malawi press, this time relating the apparent conviction of a 37 year old woman on witchcraft charges. She was charged after a number of children complained they were too tired to go to school after a night of flying and drinking with the accused. The possibility that they had simply stayed up too late watching Harry Potter was apparently not discussed.

This is refreshing- a religious expert takes the stand to testify against a killer who claimed he murdered for his religion; sociology professor Lorne Dawson argued that the killer was a dabbler who used Satanism as an excuse, and that he may have been struggling with a strict Christian upbringing: "He already had the impulse, and Satanism provided a convenient excuse for acting on his desires.''

As gullible as American reporters can be when it comes to religion, I don't think I've ever seen anything as pathetically comic as this drop-dead serious report of a self-professed "Satanist" who appeared (big surprise) at an evangelical event in Africa. According to the story dutifully recounted by the reporter, a "possessed" woman was exorcised by the presiding pastor, who caused all manner of interesting objects to fall from the woman's orifices, including snakes, jewelry, and male genitalia. It appears all those tales of witches stealing men's genitals were true after all. Who knew?

The unusual twist in this story is that the woman chose not to hang around to become a testimonial, but declared herself commotted to satan and left the party early.

Lest you think that's an aberration, check out this story from Ghana, which reports of a congregation of witches plotting to kill thousands of travellers with black magic- to make their conference "memorable."

Wisdom Eyes Of Buddha

Often depicted on Stupas, this symbol represents the all seeing eyes of Buddha. The small dot depicted between the eyes represents the third eye, a symbol of spiritual awakening. The curious squiggle between the eyes is the Sanscrit numeral one, and symbolizes the unity of all things.

Thanks for dropping by. I have it on good authority that I will finally have a partner in the next few weeks, which will give me some much-needed down time away from work....and the chance to enjoy a nice chilled Chardonnay that has been sitting all alone in my fridge for almost four months. It has begun to call to me...hehehe.

See you in the ether !

Hi Jay! Well, you've certainly brought a lot to the table to think about.

Regarding the law of attraction, it's so true that we attract in kind the energies we put out into the universe. That old saying, "Like attracts like," is very true.

Then again, is it possible that this is another form for the law of karma - we reap what we sow? Perhaps...

Great post, my friend - keep them coming. And as soon as you can, take a break! You have soooooooo earned it!

(gasps) I have that book! :D Took the quiz: You're most like the Roman goddess JUNO. Juno was believed to watch and protect all women. As the patroness of marriage, Juno restored peace between quarreling couples. Similar goddesses include Hera, Vesta and Fricka. O_o' I beg to differ. Me? Juno? I don't even want to get married!
Ever feel like you just don't want to have to try & be nice & respectful of other religions because people of other religions just keep saying bullshit about other's religions? (Did that even make sense?) Because, you know, I try to be respectful of people's religions. But when people act like Halloween is a Satanic holiday, I just want to scream at them. Something like, Congratulations on making your faith look even worse! I mean, I know there's fundies in every religion. It just pisses me off so much.

...I daresay my reply shall come off as rude & rash, but I am just so bloody angry about it right now.

But. Have fun with your wine. ^ ^;;;;
